Sunny days and cloudy beer

So far so good. Honestly the worst thing that’s happened was the ending of Severance season 2. I was afraid it was going to turn into another Lost, but it was so so soooo much worse than I expected. But maybe another post…

We left Florida and headed north to Savannah, GA for a few days to meet Jenny who was there for work. It was a little strange to be in and out of a hotel room after all that work on the van, but in order to go out and do stuff, it seemed the much better plan to leave them in a hotel room than in the van in some random parking lot. I mean, they would have been fine, I’d have been paranoid and worrying the whole time. Hell, I still did anyways.

Jenny worked until 7-8pm every night, so the days were free to roam as possible around my own work stuff. On Friday, I threw the dogs in the van and we headed out to Hilton Head Island, SC.

Needless to say, it was super nice. It’s amazing how nice everyone is when they’re rich. And retired.

The kids played a bunch at Chaplin Best Friends Dog Park, and then I decided I wanted a beer because OBVIOUSLY I WANTED A BEER.

An important part of this life will be leaving the dogs in the van for a while so I can go grab a burger and beer at various establishments, so I took the opportunity to test that plan at Lincoln and South Brewing Company where I got the Fare Pointe ESB and some onion rings. Just onion rings.

The dogs obviously survived the hour or so laying around the van, and we headed back to the hotel. On the way we stopped for a walk at Jarvis Creek Park and… it was… yeah it was, you know… no, sorry, I just hate walking them on their leashes so fucking much. SO MUCH. They’re so well behaved in literally every other single way but they JUST CANNOT DO IT. I’ve all but given up.

Why do we say “all but given up” when we mean “given up”? It’s like millennials saying “literally” when they LITERALLY mean “figuratively”. But it’s just accepted now, so… where was I?

Also, when you quote something that ends a sentence, do you put the punctuation “inside,” or “outside”, the quotes. I’d Google it, but I’m just not gonna do that, mostly because I don’t want to.

We left Savannah on Saturday and finally started west. Lots of uninteresting dog parks and parking lots (unless you’re a Cracker Barrel parking lot aficionado, then give me a call, MAN do I have some knowledge to share) but I can hit two of the highlights:

Macon Dog Park, Macon, GA

Fuck yeah. I’d straight up move to Macon, GA for this one. Hell, I’d live there with Goose and Charlie if I could. Huge park with a creek, and a great mix of pups for the kids to play with. I think we were there for like two hours, it was awesome. For some reason I only got a few pictures of Goose. I promise, Charlie was there too. Mostly disappearing into drainage ditches and scaring the shit out of me.

Solo’s Park and Pub, Oklahoma City, OK

On Monday night, after some trial (Bass Pro Shops in downtown OKC) and error (a bunch of cars surrounding the van blasting their music to make us leave so they could drag race or rev their engines while they jerk each other off or whatever the fuck those fucking idiots do with their stupid fucking vroom vroom cars) we ended up north of OKC at a Cabela’s.

This was unfortunate because OKC has a top rated dog park / bar place called Bar K (get it?), but it’s in the southern part of the city and I just really didn’t feel like heading back across town in morning rush hour. So I started looking to see if there were any other options at our new spot, and for some reason it just kept pulling up my location… until I realized we had ended up about 100 yards away from a different dog park / bar by pure fucking dumb luck. So the plan for Tuesday was pretty easily decided.

We had a dog park / bar around us in Maryland that unfortunately shut down. Well, before that we had to stop going because for some reason Goose and Charlie would start fighting and rile up all the other dogs. But shortly after that it went bankrupt and we stuck to dog parks for the last few months we were home.

So this was the first time they were back in that environment and they KILLED IT. Even Goose was playing with other dogs like he used to back in his heyday.

Best I could catch on video.

Presently, we are outside of Albuquerque, NM. Tomorrow we will finally get to Arizona where we plan to chill for a while. These two definitely need a break from driving. Especially Goose. I did just now make the mistake of getting out of bed to close up all the windows and they completely took it over. So now I get to fight my way back in. Goose will cede his position with little fuss. She’s gonna be a little fucker about it though.
